While we wait for the City government to address the problem, here are a few alternatives:
While we wait for the City government to address the problem, here are a few alternatives:
- HandiTran, operated by the City of Arlington for older residents age 65+ and for adult disabled residents. The fee is a $10 application fee and then $2 each way for a ride. More information by calling (817) 459-5390 or checking the City's website by clicking this link http://www.arlington-tx.gov/handitran
- Elder Helpers is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It is a national matching service which matches elders who need assistance with local (Arlington) volunteers who want to provide assistance. The service is free to the elder. It is against the rules for any money to change hands. You can search by zip code to see profiles of volunteers nearby. I was surprised at the number of volunteers who agree to provide "transportation." I am interested in hearing any feedback from Arlington residents who use this service. To sign up with Elder Helpers, call (734) 330-2734 or check out their website by clicking this link http://www.elderhelpers.org
