After about 50 phone calls (outgoing and incoming) between me and various agencies over a two-week period, I'm happy to report that County Commissioner Roy Brooks' office was able to provide a new window air conditioner for a 60-year-old man who reached out to me for help when his air conditioner stopped working during the very hot weather we've been having. He lives in east Fort Worth but he said his friend who attended a meeting at a church where I spoke about the "Ambassadors" referred him to me. It took a couple of weeks, as he endured the 107 degree days in his home, but this week an air conditioner was found for him by Roderick Miles in Commissioner Brooks' office. The Fort Worth Firefighters Association did the installation. The older man without an a/c called me on Tuesday this week as the 2-man installation team was leaving his house to let me know that he was very happy with his new unit and to say thanks. Attending all of these community meetings that I go to is worthwhile in order to learn where such resources might be available. Actually, I was surprised, though, that it was so difficult to find an a/c unit (or even a fan) for a frail older person.
