I attended the City Council's work session today to hear any discussion about the proposed Active Adult Center which was on the Agenda. It was the second thing on the Agenda after the Executive Session (closed) ended, so I thought I wouldn't be there very long. BUT the first thing on the Agenda was the first iteration of the City's 2017 Budget. So the City Manager went through that presentation line by line. He made an excellent presentation and I was interested in the City's priorities, but my expectation of a quick exit was clearly off base.
After the Budget discussion, the Director of Parks & Rec (Lemuel Randolph) gave the Active Adult Center (AAC) update. Essentially, what he said was that the deadline to receive responses to the recently released RFP (Request for Proposals) has been extended from Sep. 1 to Oct. 3 (on Saturday, I had sent an email to Mayor and City Council asking for the deadline to be extended because 30 days to respond was insufficient time for developers to submit questions and a final proposal). The deadline was extended for another 30-ish days which is good (to increase the number of developers who might participate). To refresh your memories, the RFP asks for developers to tell the City their ideas of what would be good use of the available City-owned 24 acres, and how they would develop the land (located on the east side of Green Oaks Blvd., just north of Arkansas Ln., contiguous to the proposed Active Adult Center).
I stayed for the next Agenda item also which was about PayDay Lending (boo hiss).
If you have any interest in watching any of the above, you can find the recording of the meeting(s) on the City's website on the City Council page (but it usually takes ~24 hours before it is posted). I just checked and neither today's "work session" nor today's formal "City Council meeting" has been posted yet. When it's available, you will be able to see it here
