Good news. Dinh Nguyen, DDS, offers reduced rates to Ambassadors: 1119 W. Randol Mill Rd #101 (at North Davis), Arlington 76012, (817) 422-9381.
As you know, since Medicare does not cover dental care, I have been interested in finding the best options for our older Arlington residents who need dental care. It is well known that when an older person has "unattractive teeth," they stop smiling and sometimes isolate themselves due to embarrassment. I'm hoping that the new Arlington proposed Active Adult Center's wellness clinic will have some kind of dental clinic with low-cost (or free) service, but that's far off into the future without any assurance that dental service will be included (or even that the voters will vote to fund the proposed AAC).
Our new Action Team Leader, Darla Penzell, suggested that I reach out to Dinh Nguyen, DDS, because she knows Dr. Nguyen is very "community oriented" and Darla thought he might want to help.
As I was due for my six-month dental cleaning this week, I made the appointment with Dr. Nguyen instead of with my regular dentist and I had that appointment yesterday. Before Dr. Nguyen started cleaning my teeth, I explained that I was there because I wanted to talk to him about the possibility of his offering reduced rates to Ambassadors members. I explained that I was not there to negotiate rates for my own dental service and my inquiry had nothing to do with "today's visit." He listened very carefully, and then he said, "Yes! I will do that for your group. I love helping my community." And he whipped out his business card and wrote his personal cell phone number on it and said, "Any time you need help from me, just call me. If I'm with a patient, leave a message and I will call you back as soon as I can.")
It's impossible to list prices (retail or discounted) for all services offered in a dental office but an example of a service that Dr. Nguyen said he would discount (since I specifically told him that older adults on fixed incomes cannot afford to pay $6k for implants) is this.
He said that for people who need dentures, assuming they have enough bone to hold the post(s) for dentures to lock on to, he would insert the posts at no charge (value $1,500-$2,000) and the patient would pay just the normal cost of dentures (that they would pay without the posts). As you know, posts are very helpful for keeping dentures from slipping around or even popping out at inopportune times. Also, he mentioned some special pricing for implants and crowns that he would do, but I don't really remember what he said and it's not important because obviously prices are subject to change. Each case will have to be evaluated.
When you need dental service, I suggest that you get a quote from your regular dentist and then call Dr. Nguyen's office, remind whoever answers the phone of Dr. Nguyen's offer to Elva Roy & the Ambassadors For Aging Well, and ask about the charge for the service you need. Or if you just want to go directly to Dr. Nguyen's office, I think you would do fine there. If you want me to prepare his office before you call or visit (to remind them of what they offered our members, I will be happy to call them in advance to advise them that you will be calling to get a quote, but that's probably not even necessary).
I will be adding Dr. Nguyen's office under the tab "Local Resources" for Dental on in case you can't remember where to find this post and need the information in the future.
